Police working with Mexican counterparts to apprehend nephews that allegedly killed their uncle

Posted: Monday, December 13, 2021. 12:51 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: The Belize Police Department is working with Mexican law enforcement to apprehend two men accused of brutally beating their own uncle to death.

Reports are that Shamir Teyul and his brother Enrique Teyul, absconded to Mexico by crossing the Rio Hondo River, after beating their uncle Eugenio Teyul to death with a wheel spanner on Sunday in San Antonio Village, Orange Walk District.

Director of Communications for the Office of the Commissioner of Police, Assistant Superintendent Fitzroy Yearwood, said that the department is liaising with their Mexican counterparts in an attempt to apprehend the brothers before the situation can escalate further.

“Our investigation is a murder investigation and we are hoping that people in that community can assist us in finding the Teyul brothers and bring them to justice,” Yearwood said. “We’re trying our best to get these people into custody as soon as possible; we wouldn’t want any other relative to take matters into their own hands.”

Police believe that, given the nature of the offense, the men may not be receiving any support from relatives across the border.
