By Aaron Humes: Cabinet is supporting an effort to attract more regional flights through Belize by reviewing the departure fee structure for these flights.
There appears to be an issue with departure fees for regional flights, i.e., those for Central America and the Caribbean, such that it is not attractive for them to fly to and from Belize.
Tourism Minister Anthony Mahler has reported that regional airlines in Mexico are interested in flying to Belize and as a result the matter was discussed in Cabinet today.
Following today’s meeting, Cabinet gave its approval for the Minister of Tourism & Diaspora Relations and the Minister of the Blue Economy & Civil Aviation to hold consultations with the relevant stakeholders about the possibility of designating a separate departure fee structure to apply for regional flights.
