Minister of Tourism and Diaspora Relations mourns loss of Romel Perdomo

By Benjamin Flowers: Today, Belize was shocked with the announcement of the passing of well-known businessman and co-owner of Travellers Liquors Ltd, Romel Tiburcio Perdomo. Following the announcement of his death, Minister of Tourism and Diaspora Relations, Anthony Mahler, has publicly expressed his sadness.

The Belize Tourism Board (BTB) posted a message on its official Facebook page from Mahler, mourning Perdomo’s loss and also offering his sincerest condolences to Perdomo’s family.

Mahler also paid respect to the fact that Perdomo and his family’s company has made a mark on Belizean society.

“Through the vision and efforts of Mr. Perdomo and his family, Travellers Liquors propelled to an award-winning brand and has been engrained in Belizean tradition and legacy. May he rest in Peace,” Mahler said.

Perdomo was affectionately known in football circles in Belize due to his involvement with the sport. He also spoke openly about social issues such as corruption in government and police brutality. News of his passing has brought an outpour of condolences and support for his family over social media from Belizeans at home and within the diaspora.
