After a fall in the numbers of COVID-19 infections, the Government recently lifted a number of COVID-19 restrictions. While people don’t have to wear masks in open spaces and can now have gatherings, discotheques, bars, and rum shops remain closed. However, according to the Commissioner of Police Chester Williams, some people are carrying it too far and he foresees another COVID-19 spike.
Today, Williams expressed concern at the number of parties and mass drinking.
“The amount of parties and mass drinking I see happening around is alarming,” wrote the Commissioner on social media.
“Some of my Belizeans are acting like they were imprisoned for a decade and just got released.”
“We no longer have restaurants as they are all operating like night clubs or bars. I call this self destruction because at the rate we are going pretty soon we will see the covid numbers skyrocket. … we certainly are our worst enemies,” he concluded.
