Police officer being investigated in gang activity

By BBN Staff: Police officers are sworn to uphold the law, however oftentimes, officers are caught in various kinds of wrongdoing from extortion to assisting with landing narco plane landings, and more recently, suspected of gang activity.

Commissioner of Police, speaking on the latest spike in gang violence in Belize City, said that one of the key groups responsible is from the PIV area of the city and that information has reached the department that the PIV gang may have police assistance.

“I can tell you this I’m not gonna hide it, we are getting information that a police officer is involved with the PIV area, we have not confirmed,” Williams said

He went on to say that the anti-gang task force has been assigned to thoroughly investigate the matter and if the officer in question is found to be involved in any wrongdoing, he will be dealt with.

Over the past two months, there have been constant shootings in Belize City and several murders, even as police anti-gang efforts have resorted to arresting and charging men for even affiliating with gangs.

Williams said that larger, more aggressive operations are coming in the days ahead to further crackdown on the gangs and restore a feeling of safety in the city.
