Arrests made in attempted murder of Albert Reid

By Aaron Humes: Police have arrested and charged Angel Anthony Matura, 33-year-old, construction worker, for Abetment to commit Murder and Floyd Fredrick Hyde, 32-year-old, a construction worker for Abetment to commit Murder and Aggravated Assault in relation to the attempt on the life of Albert Reid, 32, on Friday in Belize City.

A third person, police have confirmed, is being sought in relation to this incident.

Reid was walking on an unnamed street in the Belama Phase 5 Area heading to the main street to catch a bus on Thursday morning at about 7:30 a.m. when he saw two men running toward him, one of whom was allegedly Hyde. He turned to run into a nearby yard and the two pursued him.

One of the assailants pulled out a sawed-off shotgun and fired once at the ground. Reid continued to run into another yard, dodging a thrown piece of lumber, and the first accused then went to the home of Matura whom he allegedly asked for another cartridge for his weapon.

Matura handed it over and the first accused went after Reid in the second yard, shooting him to the right thigh and foot and left ankle.

Reid was treated for his injuries and released. Police investigations continue.
