Frank Eddy’s Farmer busted with unlicensed shotgun and cartridge; remanded to prison

Posted: Tuesday, April 5, 2022. 1:48 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: A farmer from Frank’s Eddy Village, Cayo District, who was allegedly caught with an unlicensed firearm and one cartridge has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison pending Supreme Court bail.

Salvadoran national, 44-year-old, José Clemente Bonilla Sazalla, was arraigned in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Monday, represented by attorney Audrey Matura. The charges are in connection to a 12-gauge shotgun and one 12-gauge cartridge found during a search conducted at Mile 25 on the Coastal Road on March 31.

He pleaded not guilty and was remanded until his next court appearance which has been scheduled for June 6.

Since it was a firearm offense, Sazalla could not secure bail at the magistrate level and will have to apply to the Supreme Court for bail.
