Belize Police Department takes over 50 children to Spanish Lookout for countryside tour

Posted: Thursday, April 21, 2022. 9:11 pm CST.

By Benjamin Flowers: Today, the Belize Police Department’s Eastern Division, though a private sector partnership, took 52 children from Belize City for a countryside tour in Spanish Lookout, Cayo District.

The children learned about the production of grains and animal feed, as well as the production of cheese, ice cream, eggs, chicken and beef.

Officer Commanding Police Eastern Division, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Howell Gillett, spearheaded the initiative as a means of creating positive influences for Belize City youth to counteract the influence of crime which is so rampant in the city.

“It is our hope to take as many kids from Belize City and The Belize district to see a different way of life. Grateful to Mr Leo Batty for providing the bus, Mr Joe Mena the fuel and the Spanish Lookout community for their kind hospitality,” Gillett said.

The children were also treated to a session of horseback riding.
