By Benjamin Flowers: The Eastern Division of the Belize Police Department continues on its community outreach drive with a number of activities this week, geared towards promoting unity between at-risk youth.
Today, officers took a group of children from 10 different areas in Belize City for a bicycle race at the Marion Jones Sporting Complex.
Officer Commanding Eastern Division, Assistant Commissioner of Police Howell Gillett, who spearheaded the initiative, also rode alongside the participants in the race to symbolize the support of the department to youths from all across the city.
“These kids will be networking via a WhatsApp group managed by the police to show them that they can live together despite coming from different areas,” Gillett added.
Community activities continue tomorrow with 25 at-risk youths headed out for two Under-19 football matches, and again on Friday with teams from Mahogany Heights, Ladyville, Rocky Road, Mayflower Street, Krooman Lagoon, All Saints, and Belama phases 4 and 5.
Gillett noted that all the activities are being held with the support of the business community.
