By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: As of July 5th, 2022, there have been 6,924 confirmed monkeypox cases in over 52 countries, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports.
In the United States, there have been 560 confirmed cases of the disease.

So far, officials say that most of the reported cases are among men who identify as gay, bisexual, or men who have sex with men.
However, monkeypox is not considered a sexually transmitted disease.
