Sembrando Vida project in Belize to benefit 2,000 farmers

Posted: Monday, August 29, 2022. 10:33 am CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, Prime Minister John Briceno said that the Sembrando Vida project in Belize will benefit 2,000 farmers countrywide at full implementation.

“I am happy to see the pilot stage of this bilateral cooperation program kick-off.  The pilot stage sees 186 farmers registered for participation. At full implementation, benefits will be extended to 2000 farmers countrywide,” PM Briceno noted.

Through this program, farmers will have the opportunity to sell any surplus and become self-sustaining, receive economic assistance, tools, seeds, fertilizer, and technical assistance and the government will be able to hire extension officers to work with beneficiary farmers.

The project is supported by the Mexican Government through the Mexican International Cooperation Agency for Development (AMEXCID).

Sembrando Vida is a part of the commitment made by Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador during his visit to Belize earlier this year.
