Altitude host San Pedro Pirates in PLB backmatch on Wednesday night in Independence

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: National Subchampions Altitude will host San Pedro Pirates in the only PLB backmatch at 7:30 pm on Wednesday at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence.

The game was originally scheduled for last Saturday but incessant rain caused its postponement.

Verdes’ 1-1 draw with Progresso put them at 19 points, just one more than Altitude, giving the Southern club a good break to regain the tournament lead tonight. A win over San Pedro will put them at 21 points. A win for the Pirates will put them a point behind Altitude. A draw will level Altitude with Verdes but because of goal difference, Verdes will remain at the top.

Luis Ibarra scored for Verdes from a penalty kick in the 27th minute while Zamir Bonilla tied it for Progresso in the 45’+1 in the match played in San Ignacio on Sunday.

Also on the weekend, Benque Viejo United shocked Port Layola 3-1 in Belize City while Bandits stunned Wagiya 4-2.

In the Belize City match, Port Layola started off well nailing the opener in the 20th minute but Benque Viejo United’s Argentine striker Ayrton Sisa finally came alive scoring a hat-trick blowing up the net in the 40’, 70’, and 80’.

In Belmopan, Jared Lambey also scored a hat-trick to give the Bandits their first season win. Lambey converted in the 10’,40’, and 56’. Jahlin Pelayo got the other in the 26’.
