By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Authorities in Dallas say that a man who murdered a nurse and a social worker on Saturday at the Methodist Dallas Medical Center was there to see his child’s birth, CNN reports.
The suspect shot and killed the nurse and a social worker in the maternity ward.
On Monday, officials identified the victims as Jacqueline Pokuaa, 45, and Katie Flowers, 63.
Police detained Nestor Hernandez, 30, on Saturday and is facing capital murder charges.
The shooting occurred around 11am on Saturday and a police officer confronted and shot the suspect.
Hernandez was detained, stabilized and taken to another hospital for treatment, the statement added.
Police say that Hernandez was on parole for aggravated robbery and was wearing an active ankle monitor.
Hernandez had been given permission to be at the hospital while his significant other gave birth.
“The Methodist Health System Family is heartbroken at the loss of two of our beloved team members. Our entire organization is grieving this unimaginable tragedy,” the hospital said.
