Wagiya host Port Layola today in Dangriga in Premier League of Belize backmatch

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Wagiya clash with Port Layola in a decisive backmatch in the Premier League of Belize (PLB) at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga on Wednesday as both clubs are chasing Progresso in the fight for a playoff berth.

Wagiya are presently in fifth place with 14 points while Port Layola are in sixth with 13. Progresso already sport 17, so a win today is a must for either to keep in the race. A loss puts out either. Wagiya could still tie in points with with Progresso on the weekend if they win and Progresso lose, but the goal differential is not in their favour. A draw will complicate matters for both.

Wagiya are coming off a disappointing 0-2 loss to Verdes so they need to forget that and focus solely on how to overcome the Belize City side. On the other hand, Port pumped Bandits 5-0, and while that victory was against the last-place team, scoring all of five goals can only serve to boost their confidence.

So, expect an extremely competitive match as both squads will come out pumping.

Port will be hoping Sean Young, who has six goals, plays like Never before. The same is expected of Wagiya’s Cion Augustine who has five goals to his credit.

The match kicks off at 4:00 pm.
