Two more youths charged in connection with gang-promotion video shared on social media

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Two more Belize City youths have been charged in connection with a video being circulated on social media which police say promotes gang activity.

On Thursday, 22-year-old Shemar Foreman and a 16-year-old male minor appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court. Foreman, and the minor whose mother had to appear in court with him, were read one count each of producing a video recording that promotes gang activity and one count each of being a member of a gang.

They both pleaded not guilty, but could not receive bail in the first instance in accordance with Section 16 of the Crime Control & Criminal Justice Act, Chapter 102 of the Laws of Belize. The Magistrate explained that they both had the option of applying for bail through the Supreme Court with the assistance of an attorney.

Foreman was remanded to the Belize Central Prison while the minor was remanded to the Wagner’s Youth Facility, which is housed on the prison compound.

The two join 18-year-old Iver Domingues Ian Ferguson and another 16-year-old male minor who were remanded on Tuesday, January 3, in connection with the same video.
