Special Joint Sitting of National Assembly underway to be addressed by Cuban President

By Aaron Humes: President of Cuba Miguel Diaz-Canel is preparing to address the National Assembly of Belize.

He concluded bilateral talks and agreements with the Government of Belize just after 12 noon.

The House of Representatives was called to order about the same time in order to allow Senators to join the meeting.

The House is seated together including area representatives Hugo Patt and Tracey Taegar-Panton from the Opposition, facing the Senators including Beverly Williams.

The Prime Minister formally welcomed President Diaz-Canel, stating that his visit is another recognition of the deep ties that exist between the countries.

Belize and Cuba will mark 28 years of diplomatic relations and cooperation in areas such as health and education, with Cuba hosting Belizean medical students and supporting our health response, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
