Primary School’s best spellers compete at Coca-Cola Spelling Bee

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: During my days at Santa Elena Primary, the preparations for the annual Coca-Cola Spelling Bee would be highly anticipated.

We would pack up at the Novelo’s Convention Center and cheer for our best spellers to take home the title.

This year, Bowen and Bowen in partnership with Coca-Cola and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science, and Technology welcomes back the Bowen and Bowen National Spelling Bee.

There are 544 participants from 227 schools across the country.

Zone eliminations are being conducted this month.

On February 15, 2023, the San Ignacio zone eliminations were held and Kelsie Chi of Bullet Tree Falls SDA emerged as the first place winner. Karim Zaiden of St. Andrew’s Anglican placed second.

Sixteen contestants from 8 primary schools participated.

District finals will be held in April and nationals is scheduled for Friday, June 2 at Countryside park in Spanish Lookout.
