By Rubén Morales Iglesias: With the promise that the Belize Elite Basketball League (BEBL) will continue unhindered, the weekend brings us the hottest game in Belizean basketball as the Belize City teams, the Benny’s Belize Hurricanes host archrivals Digi Belize City Defenders.
The Hurricanes (4-0) come into the hottest match of the season with a 4-0 record, while the Defenders (3-1) are hurting after stumbling last week against the Punta Gorda Panthers in PG.
The two teams clashed earlier off the court over Kirk Smith Jr who first signed with the Defenders and then switched to the Hurricanes causing side-war between BEBL teams.
The Week 5 encounter tips off on Friday night at 9:00 pm at the Belize City Civic.
Two other games will be played on Friday night. In the Capital, the Belmopan Read Taigaz (1-2) await the visit of district rivals, the Western Ballaz (2-2), at the UB Gym on Friday at 8:00 pm. Up North, the Orange Walk Running Rebels (1-3) take on the defending champions San Pedro Tigersharks (1-2) at the Orange Walk Multi-Purpose Complex at 9:00 pm.
The only Saturday game features the Southern teams. Dangriga fans are expected to flock to the Russell ‘Chiste’ Garcia Auditorium to support the homestanding Griga Dream Ballers (2-2) against the Punta Gorda Panthers (1-3). The game starts at 9:00 pm.
