Port Layola shake up Wagiya 6-2, keep pace in Premier League of Belize race

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Port Layola were merciless thrashing Wagiya 6-2 at the Marion Jones Sporting Complex in Belize City in the opening of the second round of the Premier League of Belize’s (PLB) Closing Championship.

Port Port started off like an enraged beast shaking up Wagiya pumping four goals in the first 20 minutes. Shawn Young shook the net in the 10’ and 17’. In between, Latrell Middleton hammered the ball past the keeper in the 15’. Michael Palacio joined in the party in the 20’. 4-0 Port were having a blast.

After a short pause, Port struck again in the 31’ through Gilroy Thurton. Middleton was to complete his brace later in the 68’.

Wagiya reacted and got two goals through the efforts of Leston Garcia in the 36’ and Clayton Fitzgibbon in the 82’.

Port Layola’s win keeps them in third place with 15 points right behind the San Pedro Pirates by goal difference. They are two points shy of Verdes who routed Internacional 5-0 in Cayo.

Wagiya remain in seventh place with three points from eight games.
