Long-time public servant and parliamentarian Clifton Robert Swift dies at 95

By Aaron Humes: Funeral services are scheduled for this Wednesday, May 10 at 2 p.m. at Wesley Methodist Church in Belize City for the late Clifton Robert “R.C.” Swift, who died last week Sunday at the age of 95.

The official death announcement indicates that his body was cremated yesterday, Monday.

Swift gave much of his life in service to the Government of Belize, working as Accountant General, deputy Financial Secretary, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Governor of the Central Bank and Contractor General over a distinguished career. He was named to the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire as an Ordinary Officer or OBE.

Swift is survived by three sons, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was preceded in death by his wife Winifred, known as “Betty,” a nurse; his parents, one sister and one brother as well as one son, late reporter for Channel 7 Keith Swift.
