By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, Mexican President, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador is scheduled to meet with the U.S. transportation secretary regarding Mexico’s efforts to regain top air-safety rating.
Over 2 years ago, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) downgraded Mexico to Category 2, citing safety deficiencies.
This also restricted the ability of Mexican airlines to open new routes to the United States, Reuters report.
“We’ve already complied with everything, absolutely everything,” Lopez Obrador noted recently referring to a recent audit.
Mexico’s efforts include revising aviation standards, overhauling its civil aviation law and shuffling industry officials.
