By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Boys Under 17 FIBA CentroBasket Championship hosted by the Belize Basketball Federation tips off at 2:00 pm at the Belize City Civic Center on Wednesday, July 26.
The Regional Championship consists of two groups. Group A comprises Jamaica, Panama, Belize, and Puerto Rico, and Group B consists of Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, and El Salvador.
The first game of the championship on Wednesday features the Dominican Republic against Costa Rica at 2:00 pm. The second game will see Mexico battle El Salvador at 4:00 pm. Both are Group A games.
Group B games will follow. At 6:30 pm, Jamaica clash with Puerto Rico while Belize face Panama at 8:30 pm.
Belize, as the hosts, play the final game of the day. That means that on Thursday, Belize will take on Jamaica at 8:30 pm and on Friday, they’ll match up against Puerto Rico at 8:30 pm as well.
The top two teams from each group play for the semifinals. Meanwhile, the bottom two of each group play in the classification for positions 5 to 8.
The top three teams will qualify for the FIBA U18 Americas Championship.
The FIBA U17 CentroBasket Championship will conclude on Sunday, July 30.
The Belize Boys National Team comprises Michael Caceres, Tevaughan Dawson, Wilford, Dawson, Elijah Favela, Meshach Flowers, Tomas Garcia, Amare Jones, Douglas, Langford Jr., Devin Moody, Daniel Musa, Jason Orosco, and Ian Parham Jr.
