Redistricting Report deferred by House of Representatives

By Aaron Humes: Without comment, the Redivision Report of the Election and Boundaries Commission (EBC) was deferred from presentation today at the House of Representatives.

The report was complete in July but there has been widespread dissatisfaction with the result, which proposes to remove two Belize City divisions on Southside but separates Ambergris Caye and the town of San Pedro which has more than nine thousand registered voters from the rest of what is presently Belize Rural South.

The plaintiffs in the Redistricting Case brought a few years ago have signaled their intention to return to court to seek its guidance after rejecting the proposals, while both major parties have issued noises of disapproval.
