Prime Minister continues national tour in Dangriga

Posted: Thursday, November 2, 2023. 9:03 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: At the end of a “long” but “exciting” day in and around the Culture Capital, Dangriga, Prime Minister John Briceño told the Government Press Office that he has met his expectations of being able to personally see on the ground the work that his administration has been doing on the ground and hearing directly from constituents.

“Is there a lot more work to do? Yes, there is a lot more work to be done. But the amount of work they [the Dangriga Town Council] have done in such a short time is amazing and I wish to congratulate them; and again, the relationship they have created with the area representative, Dr Louis Zabaneh – that is a partnership that has worked and it can be used as an example,” the P.M. said.

The day started at the Town Market where the Prime Minister pressed flesh with marketgoers. It continued in Hope Creek where he oversaw the giving away of lots under the Constituency Development Fund and visits to the Agriculture and National Resources Institute (ANRI) and Stann Creek ITVET which share the old Lynam compound; to Sarawee for a meeting with the village chairman; to the district secondary schools, Stann Creek Ecumenical and Delille Academy, and closed with the opening of Ready Call Center’s latest branch in Dangriga.

“Imagine that in 2019, there were 1,500 employees in the BPO industry; by now we have already hit 14,000 in less than three years – we have increased that industry by almost 700 percent,” the P.M. boasted, adding that the industry is closing to bringing in US$200 million (BZ$400 million) in investments – because the government has been paying greater attention to their needs and the ease of doing business.

“At the end of the day, we could be doing great things – the economy is going, et cetera, et cetera, and building streets and bridges – but if it does not touch the lives of our people; if we are not improving the lives of our people, then it is meaningless,” the P.M. concluded, reminding that ‘Everybody fu win’ not just a campaign slogan, but a real chance to make change in the lives of ordinary Belizeans.
