Cycling Federation of Belize, Ordonez Bike Shop, Andrew Ordonez to conduct ride in memory of Wilbert Banks, Kadeem Banks, Edison Usher on Sunday

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Cycling Federation of Belize (CFB) is joining forces with Ordonez Bike Shop and Andrew Ordonez, in coordinating a memorial ride in honour of Wilbert Banks, gunned down Friday night in Belize City and his brother Kadeem Banks and Edison Usher, who died on Sunday, April 10, 2022 in a motorcycle accident on their way to San Ignacio, Cayo to live stream the Women’s Cross All Cyclists, supports, and fans are invited.

“This Cycling Federation of Belize joins the cycling community in grieving the unexpected lost of Wilbert “Yellow” Banks,” the CFB said in a social media post early on Saturday.

“We are really shocked and devastated to learn of his untimely passing. We express our deepest and sincere condolences to his family, colleagues, friends and the cycling community. May he sleep in peace.”

“This is really hard to accept!” Andrew Ordonez wrote in a social media post.

“Banks is like a son to me and he will be vey hard to replace! We will always love and miss you! This is a tough blow for the cycling community! Condolences to his entire family and the entire Ordonez Bike Shop Belize family! May his soul RIP. Wilbert Banks”

Calling for a ‘stop the violence in Belize’, the organizers are inviting all cyclists, supporters, and fans to join in the ride.

“The ride will start at 6:00 am, tomorrow, Sunday, April 7th, from Ordonez Bike Shop and goes down Central American Boulevard and turn at the roundabout into the George Price Highway,” the CFB said in a social media post.

“It continues to the 8 Mile Roundabout and turns unto then John Smith (Link Road) and goes across to the Airport Road and right unto the Philip Goldson Highway.  It then travels down towards the city and turns left at the Flag Monument unto Princess Margaret Drive, it goes down Newtown Barracks and goes towards the Town Clock and unto Victoria St., North Front St., over Swing Bridge, up Albert St., around Regent St., back over Swing Bridge unto Queen St, turn into Daly St., Craig St., Barrack Road, Freetown Road, over Belcan Bridge, unto Central Boulevard and finish at the Ordonez Bike Shop.”

Wilbert Banks, like his brother Kadeem, was very well involved in the sport of cycling as an assistant commentator to Andrew Ordonez. His most recent  participation was for the official Holy Saturday Cross Country Cycling Classic coverage for the Cycling Federation of Belize.

Usher and Kadeem Banks were also very much involved in cycling. Usher live streamed many races with the help of Kadeem who piloted the motorcycle they used for the live streaming. Usher was also the organizer of Weekend Warriors races.

Kadeem Banks is the second sports-related person gunned down in the Belize District over the last couple of days. On Thursday, champion cricket bowler/batsman Malcolm Reynolds was shot to death. His body was found at the Burrell Boom-Philip Highway Junction bus stop.

Reynolds won the Smart/Belikin Harrison Parks National Cricket Championship with Lemonal’s Easy Does It when the team three-peated at Double Head Cabbage in 2016.
