Man shot while cleaning a septic tank

By BBN Staff: Jovanie Sutherland, 30, and his co-worker were removing waste from a septic tank with a hose connected to a truck when they were accosted by two men.

One of the assailants, armed with a pistol, demanded that Sutherland hand over his $1,800 chain, however, while doing so he was shot to his right leg.

The men then took possession of the gold chain and made good their escape.

According to police reports, this incident happened in the Lake Independence Area of Belize City and occurred shortly before midday on Saturday.

Sutherland remains in a stable condition at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. No one has yet been charged.
