Fishermen fined $10,000 for illegal conch

By BBN Staff: Nine fishermen escaped jail time after they were busted with 1,162 undersized conchs.

The men: Naigel Baptist, Eder Patt, Melvin Marquez, Fidel Roberto Chulin, Hipolito Gorosica, Roberto De la Cruz, Alvaro De la Cruz, Hilario Teck and Jose Monzon, all come from the Chunox, Copper Bank and Ranchito Villages in the Corozal District.

They were charged yesterday morning and taken to court. They pled guilty but were fined a total of more than $10,000.

Failure to meet these payments will earn them an express trip to prison.
