By BBN Staff: Assistant Commissioner of Police Chester Williams has been working closely with Dianne Finnegan and the youths of Southside Belize City to assist in bringing a decrease to the crime situation in the area.

The members of the different gangs have been cooperating and even participated in a Peace March.

There have been reports that the Gang Suppression Unit (GSU) has harrassed and exercised excessive force against some of the residents in those same communities.

In an interview with News 5 yesterday, Williams said that the police have a job to do but that the problem is the way in which that job is done.

“We just ask that in doing so that we respect human rights and human dignity and that is all we ask for,” Williams said.
