Prime Minister to host press conference on ICJ today

Posted: Wednesday, January 9, 2019. 6:53 am CST.

BBN Staff: PM Barrow will host a press conference this morning in Belize City.

The main topic of discussion is the April 10th referendum when Belizeans will decide whether or not to take Guatemala’s claim on Belize’s territory to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for final settlement.

According to reports, present and former PUP and UDP Foreign Ministers will publicly announce their support for a ‘Yes’ vote at the referendum.

The announcement is expected to boost the Government of Belize’s campaign encouraging Belizeans to vote ‘Yes’ in order for the ICJ to find a definite solution to the territorial claim.

Yesterday, the PUP issued a statement informing that the majority of their supporters are against taking the claim to the ICJ.

PUP leader John Briceno also advised that the former PUP foreign ministers that have signed the agreement with the Government do not represent the PUP’s opinion on the issue.
