By BBN Staff: The Belize Peace Movement (BPM) wants to honor the national hero, Philip Stanley Wilberforce Goldson, by having October 3 declared “National Civic Pride and Good Citizenship Day.”
The BPM said that, on the 18th anniversary of Goldson’s passing, they call on all Belizeans to take some time and find out more about the man Goldson was and the things he stood for.
The BPM said that there are several principles Goldson lived by that are applicable to our lives today including learning and understanding Belize’s history; actively participating in society by voting volunteering, mentoring,
attending church; respecting Belize’s flag and flying it proudly; and upholding the rule of law by obeying the Constitution of Belize and all our laws as well as by knowing our rights and responsibilities, among other things.
Philip Goldson (25 July 1923 – 3 October 2001) was many things in his life: newspaper editor, activist, influential member of both the People’s United Party and United Democratic Party, but above all else, he was a true Belizean patriot. Breaking Belize News takes this time to join with the BMP, and all Belizeans at home and abroad to honor
this great Belizean hero.
