San Ignacio Resort Hotel nominated for not one but two prestigious travel awards

By BBN Staff: On the cusp of celebrating its 45th anniversary as a resort for foreign and domestic tourists, San Ignacio Resort Hotel has been nominated for two prestigious globally recognized travel awards: the Condé Nast Traveler Reader’s Choice Award 2021, and the World Travel Awards’s Belize’s Leading Hotel 2021.

Condé Nast Traveler is an English, luxury magazine that places heavy emphasis on class and excellence, while the World Travel Awards is the global travel industry’s most prestigious awards program. Miriam Bedran-Roberson, Managing Director of the San Ignacio Resort Hotel, explained that the nominations are a source of pride and a testament to the investments that have been made to refine the visitor experience at the resort since 2005.

“We’re happy to be on that list, especially to know that there are people out there that would nominate us in that category. It will definitely help us not only as a resort but also as a destination for the town of San Ignacio that we carry, that’s really important to us as we continue to market throughout the region, in Belize and internationally,” she explained.

She stressed that great strides were made in transforming the family-owned, heritage hotel into a luxury destination in San Ignacio, a journey that was made increasingly difficult by the COVID-19 pandemic. Bedran- Roberson said that after the massive hit in 2020 due to the shutdown, Belizeans coming to the resort after in-country travel restrictions were lifted, gave the resort the support it needed to soldier on.

“I’d like to take the opportunity to thank my Belizean travelers,” she said, “It really means a lot to us because if you look at the history of our hotel…my father said he was building a hotel where Belizean people could come and enjoy.”

She went on to say that, the competition for the awards is fierce, but regardless of who wins, being placed on the list is a win in itself for the San Ignacio Resort Hotel. The resort was also highlighted as a “Place to stay” in the April issue of United Airlines’ official travel publication Hemispheres Magazine.
