Maya Island Air and Caring Hands Antigen Test Center supporting tourism by making COVID-19 testing more accessible

Posted: Wednesday, May 12, 2021. 10:53 am CST.

By BBN Staff: During this critical time where Belize is trying to rebuild its economy, many are placing their hopes on a robust recovery for the tourism sector to help enhance the country’s fiscal position. As ease-of-travel under new protocols becomes an increasing concern for tourists, Maya Island Air and Caring Hands Antigen Test Center are teaming up to make visiting Belize easier and more attractive by increasing access to COVID-19 testing.

The two companies established testing centers in major tourist destinations in the country (San Pedro, Belize City, Dangriga, Hopkins, and Placencia) to offer convenient and reliable rapid tests as well as PCR testing. All testing centers are staffed by qualified medical personnel and utilize Abbott Test Kits that are FDA approved and CDC compliant.

The San Pedro testing site is located adjacent to the Maya terminal; the Belize City site is located directly in front of the Maya terminal; Dangriga site is located at the Dangriga terminal; the Hopkins site is located at The Lodge at Jaguar Reef, and the Placencia site is located directly next to our Maya terminal. The San Pedro and Placencia sites are open daily from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. while the Hopkins, Dangriga, and Belize city cites are open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

“These testing centers were established as a result of CDC’s new regulations set in place for air travelers traveling to the United States.” Maya Island Air explained. “They need to present a negative test result or documentation of having recovered from COVID-19 to the airline before boarding the flight.”

These protocols were established on January 12, 2021, and require all air passengers arriving at the US from foreign countries to get tested no more than three days before having their flight departing. The results are ready in just 15 minutes and are affordably priced at USD$75 for the Rapid Test and USD$320 for the PCR test.

Maya Island Air also announced that, in the near future, we have two more testing sites open in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye at Alaia Belize, and Victoria House Resort and Spa.
