By Zoila Palma: Today, the Nurses’ Association of Belize (NAB) issued a statement informing the Government of Belize that it stand in full support of the joint unions and that after polling the nurses body, it stands ready for industrial action.
NAB noted that 99 percent of respondents said that they are against any salary cut.
In their release, NAB listed out other ways in which the government can save money.
Cutting exuberant allowances of Ministers and Senior Executives.
Prioritization of Government spending on improving people’s lives and the judiciary.
Refrain from the creation of unnecessary posts by the Government and cease hiring of non-essential positions.
Stop the wasting of Government funds on ridiculous and punitive national transfers of Public Officers that serves no benefit to the people and rather serves only to frustrate the experienced and much needed officers.
Employ officers by qualification and not by political affiliation.
Implement the law to improve on revenue collection by the Government from businesses and citizens without impartiality.
Restrict the use of Government vehicles for official purposes only, parking all government vehicles after normal working hours.
NAB says that if these points are not accepted and an all-inclusive plan is not established to repair the economy of the country, the association will stand ‘against the injustice being perpetuated against public officers and this country.’
“Successive Governments have only bestowed pain and suffering upon this nation through reckless borrowing, spending and pillaging of the people’s resources; it stops now,” the association said.
