By Rubén Morales Iglesias: “I’m very happy to report that we have almost 100 percent of teachers all across this country who have been vaccinated,” said Prime Minister John Briceño on the occasion of World Food Day on Wednesday.

“It is time to get our children back to school,” the Prime Minister added.

“I must commend the BNTU who have encouraged all their teachers to get vaccinated and most of our young people between the ages of 12 and 18 have already had their first vaccine or probably, in many instances, have taken both vaccines.”

“It is time to open up the schools,” he reiterated.

Prime Minister Briceño said the children need the day-to-day interaction.

“It is easy for us to say that we can’t open the schools because the children are going to get sick, but they are already sick because they don’t have the social interaction with their teachers and their friends in school.”

The PM said his wife Rosanna, Special Envoy for Families and Children also encouraged him to open the schools.

“We have pretty much lost a whole year of education for our children. And I know it’s an over-used cliché to say that ‘Our children are our future’, but, you know what, ‘Our children are our future!’. And we need to do everything possible to get them back into school.”

In closing his comments on opening schools, Prime Minister Briceño commended Education Minister Francis Fonseca and his team who “are working towards making sure that we can get back our teachers back to school”.
