By Benjamin Flowers: Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) continues to support education in Belize with upgrades to school buildings at St. Peter’s Anglican School in Orange Walk.
The upgrades, which were done with a contribution from BEL in 2021, saw the installation of a sidewalk and wheelchair ramps that connect the four school buildings. BEL notes that the construction was completed in January, in time for the resumption of face-to-face classes.
“BEL’s contribution towards the construction of the ramps and sidewalks has significantly improved access to the school’s facilities, especially for our five students in wheelchairs,” said Osmair Henry – Principal, St. Peter’s Anglican School. “Parents feel more comfortable knowing they can take their children to their respective classrooms in a hassle-free and safe manner.”
Over the years, St. Peter’s Anglican School has been praised for its emphasis on inclusion, offering a Special Education Program to integrate students with special needs. The school has a current student population of 266 students, with 42 children enrolled in the Special Education Program.
Notably, Special Envoy for the Development of Families and Children, Rossana Briceño is a former principal at St. Peter’s Anglican School.
