Belize Weather: Hot and windy to start, cooling down later

The National Meteorological Service says a slight increase in moisture and increase in winds are headed our way, but today starts out hot and dry.

Skies today will start sunny with a few cloudy spells and isolated showers except for a chance of an isolated thunderstorm inland this afternoon. Tonight, skies will be partly cloudy to cloudy with a few showers and possible isolated thunderstorms.

High temperatures today reach 91 degrees Fahrenheit along the coast, 100 degrees Fahrenheit inland and 86 degrees Fahrenheit in the hills. Tonight’s low temperatures are 82 degrees along the coast, 76 degrees in the interior and 68 degrees in the hills. A heat alert is in effect, and residents are advised to avoid outdoor activity as much as possible and stay hydrated.

Winds start from the southeast at 10 to 20 knots, moving to the east to southeast at 15 to 25 knots. The sea will be moderate to rough, becoming rough at times. A small craft caution is in effect for gusty winds and locally rough seas and may be upgraded to a warning later tonight.

Tides will be high at 1:53 this afternoon and low at 9:39 this evening. Sunset occurs at 6:19 this evening and rises at 5:18 Sunday morning.

Sunday sees a chance of a few showers and possible isolated thunderstorms.
