By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Under 15 Belize Girls National Football Team (BGNT) is now travelling to Costa Rica to compete in the Central American Football Union (UNCAF) FIFA FORWARD U15 Girls Championship.

Technical Director at the Football Federation of Belize (FFB) Philip Marin said the team left by road on Thursday morning at 5:30 am to Santa Elena, Peten, from where they will fly to Guatemala City at midday. The U15 BGNT will overnight in Guatemala City and will take another flight on Friday at 8:00 am to Costa Rica where they will arrive before midday.

After Guatemala’s withdrawal, Belize will only have two rivals, El Salvador and the Dominican Republic. This caused the Central American Football Union to make changes to the schedule and move all the games to one stadium, the José Joaquín ‘Coyella’ Fonseca Stadium in San Jose. Belize’s games remain the same except that the U15 BGNT will now play until Tuesday. Belize’s game against Guatemala has been scheduled for Sunday.

The U15 BGNT’s first match will be on Tuesday, June 7, against El Salvador at 4:00 pm. The second game will be against the Dominican Republic on Thursday, June 9, at 4:00 pm.

Group A consists of hosts Costa Rica, Nicaragua, invited guests Puerto Rico, and Honduras.

The FFB selected 21 players to represent the country at the regional tournament to be held in San Jose, Costa Rica from Sunday, June 5, to Saturday, June 11.
