By Rubén Morales Iglesias: “500 students of the Carmelita Government School and the Santa Martha Government School are prepared for the new academic year well ahead of schedule thanks to a donation by the United States Security Cooperation Office’s Humanitarian Assistance Programme,” said the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology (MoECST) on Wednesday.

The United States Embassy said it delivered 500 backpacks filled with school supplies to students at the Carmelita and Santa Martha villages in the Orange Walk District.

“Funded by the American people through U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) #HumanitarianAssitanceProgram, this donation ensures children in these rural communities are successfully poised to return to the classroom” noted the US Embassy.

“Pandemic recovery is about both health security as well as getting our lives back on track in education, business, and government. That means helping children get equipped for face-to-face learning in the classroom. From vaccines to backpacks and school supplies, the United States has been a staunch supporter of Belize’s pandemic recovery efforts.”

The MoECST stated it had no doubt the students, parents, and teachers at the two schools are extremely thankful for the donation.

“The longstanding relationship between the Ministry of Education and our American partners is only strengthened by these generous initiatives,” said MoECST.

“These must-have school supplies will go a long way to supporting the educational needs of the students and ease the financial burden on their families,” echoed the US Embassy.

The United States Embassy said the United States is a proud supporter of democracy, security, and prosperity and is committed to a strong partnership with Belize.
