Whatsapp adds new privacy options including ‘Screenshot blocking’

Posted: Tuesday, August 9, 2022. 11:37 am CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Whatsapp is introducing new privacy options including Screenshot blocking, TechCrunch reports.

The Meta-owned messaging app announced that it will give users more control over who is able to see them online.

The “online presence control” will allow users to choose which contacts can see them online while hiding it from others.

The company says that the feature will be available for mobile and desktop users.

In addition, the company is testing screenshot blocking for “view once” messages.

The company notes that it is in testing for now but it hopes to get it out soon.

However, users should be aware that anyone can still take a photo of their screen with a different device.

Whatsapp will also now allow users to leave groups privately without sending out a mass notification that they left. Only group admins would be notified.

“We’ll keep building new ways to protect your messages and keep them as private and secure as a face-to-face conversation,” Meta Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated.
