Los Lagos residents charged with drug trafficking tried to plead guilty to lesser charge; Court rejected guilty plea

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A couple from the Los Lagos area of Ladyville Village, is out on bail after being charged with drug trafficking this week.

Sixty-one-year-old, Errol Allan Chatham, and 31-year-old Andrea Adelita Andrews appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, charged jointly with possession of controlled drugs with intent to supply to another, in respect to 1.62 kilos of marijuana found at their home during a police search.

They tried pleading guilty to the lesser charge of possession simplitica (simple possession); however, the Court rejected the guilty plea and decided to proceed with the trial. They entered pleas of not guilty for the charge and were granted bail in the sum of $3,000 each plus one surety each of the same, which they met.

They are due back in Court on December 6, 2022.
