National Taiwan University representatives explore hydrometeorological stations in Belize

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, Professor Ho from National Taiwan University led a team to visit disaster prevention communities and the construction of hydrometeorological stations in Belize.

The delegation also visited and met with representatives from Belize’s National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO), the National Meteorological Service, and the National Hydrological Service.

Discussions included cooperation on projects and the valuable experience of disaster prevention in Taiwan.

Discussions also included the introduction of Taiwan’s mature Disaster prevention technology to assist Belize to establish an early warning system under the project, “Flood Warning Capacity Improvement for the Belize River Basin Project”.

“We hope that Taiwan’s Disaster prevention technology can be extended to the entire Belize River Basin, including Belmopan and the Belize City area further downstream, as well as areas where critical infrastructures are involved,” the Taiwan Embassy in Belize said.

The Taiwan Embassy reiterated its commitment to work with and assist the Government and people of Belize.

“Through Taiwan ICDF’s bilateral cooperation projects, the Government of the ROC (Taiwan) continues to pride itself as a committed development partner for Belize in its unwavering pursuit of upgrading and diversifying its economy and national development,” the Taiwan Embassy added.
