Belize play against the Dominican Republic on Monday, final game in Concacaf Nations League B

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize Men’s National Team play their final game in the Concacaf Nations League (CNL) B at 6:00 pm (4:00 pm Belize) at the Estadio Panamericano in San Cristóbal outside Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic.

The Panamericano has a grass pitch and a capacity for 2,800 persons.

Belize lost 2-0 to the Dominican Republic last June on goals by Jean López (20’) and Danny Romero (67’) at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan.

Unfortunately for Belize, the projections didn’t turn out as expected and the BMNT is finishing last in this edition of the CNL B as they have only been able to earn one solitary point in five outings. That came from the 1-1 draw with French Guiana at the FFB Stadium. Horace Avila scored Belize’s goal in that match on June 9, 2022. The return match on June 14 in Cayenne favoured French Guiana 1-0.

Belize also lost both games against Guatemala: 2-0 on June 5 in Guatemala City and 2-1 in Belmopan last Saturday. Jordy Polanco (45’+1) scored Belize’s goal in that match.

Today is the last game Belize have to salvage a win.

And it’s not like it can’t be done. The BMNT beat the Dominican Republic twice in the 2018 World Cup Qualifiers: a 3-0 triumph on June 14, 2015, in Belmopan and 2-1 victory in Santo Domingo on June 11, 2015.

So, we’re hoping for the best today at 4:00 pm.

The BMNT has been in Santo Domingo since Saturday night after travelling all day via Miami.
