Police warn resort owner to cancel upcoming concert

Posted: Tuesday, July 21, 2020. 2:58 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: The Midas Resort in San Ignacio was recently advertising the “Before the Plane Lands Pool Party” to be held on August 1; however, authorities have said that the event needs to be canceled.

BBN has confirmed that the officer commanding the San Ignacio Police formation, Henry Jemmott, wrote to the owner of the Midas saying that he does not support the holding of a concert and outlined several reasons why. Chief among those reasons was the fact that the COVID-19 pandemic is still ongoing; that “it is difficult to get an intoxicated person to adhere to social distancing rules.”

He also noted that the Ministry of Labour Local Government and Rural Development is not granting any extensions at this time, meaning that the event would have to shut down at midnight.

“As the officer commanding San Ignacio Police Formation, I do not support this event to happen and will not provide the necessary security for such a function or concert,” Jemmott wrote.

But the Midas is not taking no for an answer. The owner took to social media to accuse the police of being discriminatory, noting that clubs and casinos are allowed to operate until 4. The Midas further encouraged party-goers to arrive early so that they can enjoy the event and be done by midnight.

“COME EARLY 3PM UNTIL 12AM,” the new advertisement on the resorts Facebook page said. “It Just get Biggah and Bettah Music Vides until 12am…”

This is a developing story.
