By Benjamin Flowers: Haitian President Jovenel Moïse, who was assassinated on July 7, will be given a state funeral on Friday, July 23, according to the Haitian government.

Yahoo News reports that Moïse will be laid to rest in the city of Cap-Haïtien, northern Haiti, which is both close to where he was born and where he began his career as an entrepreneur.

On Friday, the Haitian government gave an update on the investigation into the assassination, where almost two dozen people have been arrested, including five Haitian police officers, and three people were killed in a shootout out with police. Additionally, Haiti National Police Chief Léon Charles noted that 24 officers assigned to the late president’s security detail have been sanctioned.

The majority of those arrested in the investigation are Colombian nationals, some of whom notably received United States military training, according to VOA News.

Moïse’s wife, Martine Moïse, who was wounded in the attack, was flown to Miami and remains hospitalized at Jackson Health System’s Ryder Trauma Center, and returned to Haiti on Saturday.
