By Benjamin Flowers: Today, former three-term United Democratic Party Area Representative and Government Minister, Ruben Campos, was officially laid to rest.
Campos, who died at age 70 on Friday, April 22 after an extended period of illness, was laid to rest in his beloved Orange Walk, after a memorial mass held at the Muffles College Auditorium.
Campos had served as Area Rep for Orange Walk North and Orange Walk South, under the administrations of Sir Manuel Esquivel in 1984 and 1993. He had also offered himself up for Orange Walk Central in 1998 but lost.
Campos is notably the fourth senior member of the UDP to die this year with Sir Manuel Esquivel dying in February, Elito Urbina in March and Melvin Hulse on April 6.
Leader of the Opposition Moses “Shyne” Barrow, at the news of Campos’s passing, issued a statement saying that his “dedication to Party [and] Country will forever be celebrated as the benchmark for a political life of service.”
