COVID update: Nearly 200 new cases were reported over the weekend

By Aaron Humes: 198 new cases of COVID-19 were reported this past weekend countrywide.

This pushes the number of active cases to 883 despite 86 more persons recovered. A further 200 samples are under investigation.

After a slowdown in the rise of cases for several weeks, Belize is rapidly approaching 59,000 total cases with a recovery rate of 97.2 percent.



Meanwhile, no new deaths were reported, but nine persons were hospitalized.

75 of the new cases – an average of 25 per day – were reported in Belize City. A total of 108 new cases were reported overall in mainland Belize District and 28 in San Pedro Town.

Elsewhere, 27 new cases were reported in Cayo including 14 in Belmopan and its surrounds and six in the Twin Towns; 17 total cases in the northern districts including nine in Orange Walk Town; and 18 in the south including four in Punta Gorda Town and three each in Dangriga, Hopkins, and Independence.
