27 school shootings recorded in U.S. in 2022

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Only 10 days after a shooting in Buffalo, New York that took the lives of 10 people, a lone gunman entered Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas and shot and killed 19 students and 2 teachers.

The mass shooting at Robb Elementary became the 27^th school shooting recorded in the United States.

Since 2018, 119 school shootings have occurred, Education Week reports.

In addition, the Gun Violence Archive (GVA) noted that the U.S. has surpassed 200 mass shootings this year. It defines a mass shooting as an incident in which four or more people were shot or killed, excluding the shooter.

In 2021, the GVA reported that there were 693 mass shootings.

U.S. President, Joe Biden has implored congress to take action against gun violence as the country continues to reel from mass shootings.

“For the children we’ve lost, the children we can save, for the nation we love, let’s hear the call and the cry. Let’s meet the moment. Let us finally do something,” Biden said.
