By Aaron Humes: It’s almost playoff time in the Sprite Live Life Youth Basketball Tournament 2022, which saw week 15 action at the Mexico Sports Center (Marion Jones Sporting Complex) in Belize City.
10 of 11 games were played with one default, and according to the Police Department, “rival teams in these difficult violent days, rival groups [were] hanging out together peacefully, reasoning with each other, communicating with each other positively. We also saw, heart & soul competitiveness, sportsmanship, leadership & controlled discipline behaviors displayed on and off the basketball court.”
Southside Warriors stopped Hard Rock 42-36; Kraal Road defeated Complex Titans 34-29; Ebony Lake edged Hattieville Underdogz 35-34; Dan One defeated Jaguars 44-37; Southside won their second game of the day 53-50 over Pinks Alley; Police defeated Hattieville 35-26; Hard Rock knocked off Ladyville Big Dreams 66-57; Hattieville won over Mahogany Heights Camp 45-34; Ladyville got a default victory over Freetown Hitters, Hard Rock beat Jaguars 60-43 and Police edged Kraal Road 45-42.
The team standings, with only eight teams moving on to the playoffs, have Hard Rock at 12 wins, 1 loss; Police, 10-4, in second; Hattieville also 10-4; Complex 9-3; Southside 8-5; Kraal Road 8-6; Dan One 7-5 and Unruly Boyz 5-4.
On the outside looking in are Ebony Lake (5-7); Ladyville (5-7); Freetown (4-7); Mayflower Bombers (4-7); Mahogany Heights Camp (2-11) and propping up the table, Pinks Alley at 1-10 and Jaguars at 1-11.
The last regular season games will be played at Yabra Green Basketball Court at 8:30 a.m. on August 13.
