By Breaking Belize News Staff: In the wee hours of Monday, March 6, 2023, San Ignacio Police received a report of shots fired on Western Street behind Flamingo Avenue in San Ignacio Town. Upon arrival, police met with Mr. Lenny Guzman, a 58-year-old taxi driver who reported the incident.
According to Guzman, he and his family were sleeping inside their home when they heard two gunshots close to their house. His son, Clifford Guzman, got up and went outside, where he saw a black Geo Prizm car without a license plate speeding away from the scene. Further checks revealed that the family’s dark green Ford Escort car, which was parked inside their yard, had six bullet holes, and three bullet holes were found on the house. Fortunately, no one was injured.
Initial investigations revealed that about four months ago, Clifford Guzman had a misunderstanding which led to a fight with another man, who is believed to be the suspect in this shooting incident. The scene was processed by Scenes of Crime, who found six bullet casings on the road in front of the residence. The police have yet to make an arrest, but they are searching for one suspect in relation to the incident.
This incident has sent shockwaves through the community and raises concerns about the safety of residents in the area. The police are urging anyone with information about the shooting to come forward to assist with their investigations.
